Job Summary
Assist special education teachers in providing physical and instructional needs for students with disabilities, including implementing classroom programs for self-help, behavior management, and instruction. Work under general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of the certified teacher to support daily operations. Maintain emotional control under stress while managing frequent interruptions, moderate walking, standing, and heavy lifting of students up to 53 pounds. Handle responsibilities involving contact with individuals that may include exposure to disruptive behavior and communicable diseases. Requires an Associate's degree and prior experience working with children.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment requirements
- Educational Aide Certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Prior experience working with children
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds
