Job Summary
Ride on the bus and assist the driver in loading and unloading wheelchair-bound students during regular home-to-school runs and emergencies. Act quickly to ensure student safety while maintaining a positive climate during transport. Implement and monitor individualized educational program behavioral management plans and complete daily behavior management forms. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents, and attend conferences when necessary. Work under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor at York Elementary School, reporting to the Building Principal or Transportation Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and supervise students.
- Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, cooperativeness, and confidentiality.
- Must be able to demonstrate competency in detailing information necessary to complete paperwork.
- Must possess physical strength and ability to assist bus driver in loading and unloading wheelchair-bound students on and off the bus and to deal with potentially aggressive behavior of students.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
- Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
- Supports a positive school environment that celebrates, respects and values diversity, where learning is made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
- Participates in activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence.
- Demonstrates a commitment to equitable outcomes for all students.
- Ability to recognize each person as a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage.

Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience working with behaviorally disabled students preferred.
