Job Summary
Assist students with disabilities in grades K-12 by providing health, communication, and behavior supports across general and special education settings. Motivate students to build independence, develop social skills, and self-advocate while utilizing assistive technology and adaptive equipment. Implement prevention, response, and safety interventions from Behavior Intervention Plans and Individual Health Plans, including toileting, meal assistance, and de-escalation strategies per CPI training. Gather and maintain accurate academic, behavioral, and health data to provide feedback for instruction. Work effectively with teachers, co-workers, and families while ensuring student confidentiality and understanding cultural diversity. Perform other duties as assigned to achieve district goals.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate
- Previous experience working with children
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization
- Effective listening skills
- Ability to gather, collate, and/or classify data
- Ability to work with a variety of data
- Problem solving to identify issues and create action plans
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to engage in physical activity associated with active supervision of students
- Ability to use the computer
- Ability to process electronic requests
- Ability to learn different communication devices from pictures/symbols to individual student augmentative communication devices
- Ability to retrieve and print information from various computer programs when needed
- Competency in physical skill components of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training
Desired Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Paraeducator certification
