Job Summary
Assist students with disabilities with physical needs, including transferring, lifting, positioning, feeding, and personal hygiene. Manage behavior by intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive students as needed. Support instructional programs by developing motor skills and conducting exercises assigned by teachers. Provide assistance throughout the school day, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. Interpret instructions and adapt methods based on individual medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. Maintain confidentiality and participate in professional development programs. Work under general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of the certified teacher.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds
- Must be able to lift 45 pounds or over
- Must be able to control behavior through physical restraint
- Must be able to assist non-ambulatory students
- Must be able to lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment
- Must be able to work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather)
- Must be able to work with exposure to noise
- Must be able to work with exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
- Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress
Desired Qualifications
- Two years experience working with children
