Job Summary
Special Education Aide in a self-contained classroom supports instructional programs and behavior management for students with disabilities. Responsibilities include preparing materials, maintaining an orderly classroom, inventory and equipment care, assisting substitute teachers, supervising students inside and outside the classroom, aiding with transfers and personal care (including lifting), addressing crisis situations and behavior management, adapting interactions to meet individual student needs, developing motor skills with students or small groups, and maintaining confidentiality while following district safety and emergency procedures. Reports to the principal and certified teachers; typically requires interaction with teachers, staff, and students, and includes routine administrative tasks such as documentation and records.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- associate’s degree or two years of college-level study
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
