Job Summary
Special Counsel – Health Law based in Sydney with hybrid working arrangements. The role involves delivering high-quality legal advice on professional conduct matters for healthcare professionals and Avant Insurance, managing your own file load, mentoring the Professional Conduct team, and representing members before bodies such as the Health Care Complaints Commission, Medical Council of NSW, NCAT, Aphra/Medical Board of Australia, the Office of the Health Ombudsman, and Medicare/Professional Service Review matters, as well as in coronial investigations and court appearances. The successful candidate will possess 10+ years’ post-qualification experience in professional conduct-related litigation (and criminal law experience preferred), hold a current NSW practising certificate, demonstrate health-law knowledge, and be capable of supervising and developing junior lawyers while maintaining ethical and procedural standards.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years’ PQE with demonstrated post admission experience in professional conduct related litigation and criminal law experience preferred
- Tertiary legal qualifications with current unsupervised practising certificate as a Solicitor in NSW
- Experience in conducting all phases of professional conduct cases
- Health law knowledge/background
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Ability to mentor and support junior team members
- Good computer literacy and ability to work in electronic document management environments
- Strong time management and multitasking skills
- Proactive in developing relationships and balancing member, business and team requirements
