Job Summary

Special Counsel for the Office of Technology and Innovation in New York City supports the Office of Information Privacy by researching, drafting, and reviewing privacy-related policy, regulatory submissions, and contract terms; acts as a lead supporting attorney on priority privacy projects; and contributes to citywide privacy training and strategic affairs initiatives. Responsibilities include tracking privacy legislation and industry practices; drafting public testimony, regulatory comments, and formal legal submissions; preparing briefing materials and position papers for the Executive Director and Chief Privacy Officer; drafting, negotiating, and reviewing complex privacy-related contract terms and data-sharing agreements; and managing deliverables for priority projects. The role is based in Brooklyn, NY, with on-call and varied shifts in a 24/7 operation.

Required Qualifications

  • Admission to the New York State Bar and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.
  • Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
