Job Summary
Conduct decontamination, washing, processing, and sterilization of sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies using correct procedures and universal precautions. Assemble instruments for operating room case carts and monitor stock levels to ensure immediate availability of backup supplies. Operate plasma gas sterilizers, steam autoclaves, washer decontaminators, and sonic cleaners while performing biological and chemical monitoring. Replace defective instruments and report equipment malfunctions to Bio-Med. Analyze department needs and recommend improvements to processes. Maintain CRCST or SBSPD certification within one year of hire.
Required Qualifications
- Appropriate knowledge to identify all instruments and their assembly that remain in CSR and those used by the Operating Room and other specialty areas
- Working knowledge of proper care and handling of surgical instruments
- Understands and verbalizes knowledge of instrument decontamination and sterilization processes
- Must secure sterile processing certification through CRCST or SBSPD within one (1) year of hire date in order to maintain employment
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent General Studies Required
- Certificate in Sterile Processing Required
