Spare Hospitality Attendant, On-Board Service (OBS)

Job Summary

Greet passengers, assist with luggage and boarding, and direct individuals to assigned seats while ensuring a welcoming onboard environment. Take food and beverage orders, process payments accurately, and drive sales of meals, snacks, and promotional items. Communicate safety information, enforce regulations, and respond promptly to passenger requests or complaints, escalating serious concerns to the supervisor as needed. Maintain galley, seating, and restroom cleanliness; complete daily sales reports, manage inventory, and notify staff of low stock levels. Make necessary announcements throughout the journey and promote onboard services and the Northlander App. As a spare employee, remain available two hours prior to train departure to cover scheduled shifts during vacations, sick leave, and peak periods.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 – 2 years' experience in the hospitality or customer service sector
  • Valid Food Handling certificate
  • Smart Serve
  • CPR
  • Proficient in Point of Sale (POS) systems
  • Experienced in handling cash, credit, and digital payments
  • Background in food and beverage service, delivering high-quality customer experiences
  • Bilingual in English and French (verbal)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with reservation and POS systems (Moneris, Square, etc)
  • Knowledge of Federal and Provincial Health & Safety regulations
  • Training in critical incident stress management and peer support
  • Skilled in de-escalation techniques (e.g. Trauma-Informed Care, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention)
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work long days and split shifts
  • Commitment to health and safety
  • Must be able to work shift schedules that may include weekends, holidays, evenings and overnights
  • Must have the flexibility to be available 2 hours prior to train scheduled departure times
