Job Summary
Plan and implement daily Spanish language and culture lessons aligned with Maryland Learner Outcomes and Somerset County Public Schools goals. Diagnose student needs to establish learning objectives, incorporate technology into instruction, and collaborate with faculty on delivery approaches. Supervise students in various settings, develop classroom procedures, and maintain order while facilitating problem resolution with students and parents. Report student progress objectively, maintain accurate records, and requisition instructional materials per county policy. Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and participate in professional development outside the instructional day as required.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of SCPS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, SCPS policies, and effective instructional practices
- Knowledge of Spanish language, culture, literature, and instructional strategies appropriate for teaching Spanish at the high school level
- Understanding of the teaching/learning process
- Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multi-cultural education
- Ability to infuse technology into curriculum
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university
- Meets Maryland state certification requirements in World Languages – Spanish
- Willing to obtain necessary coursework upon hire
- Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day for professional development, to accommodate patrons or to support extra curricular activities of students
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional and trade journals, technical procedures, or instructional textbooks and instructional aides
- Ability to write reports, detailed lesson plans, and procedure manuals as directed
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, administrators and the general public
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts including discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Knowledge of Design software
- Knowledge of Internet software
- Knowledge of Project Management software
- Knowledge of Spreadsheet software
- Knowledge of Word Processing software
- Ability to motivate others to perform well and give performance feedback
- Must be dependable
- Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent
