Job Summary
Provide medical interpretation and translation across Intermountain Health facilities and virtual services. Responsibilities include interpreting medical and general information with high accuracy in consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation modes for patients, families, and staff; acting as a cultural mediator; adhering to ethics and HIPAA; maintaining accurate records; translating written materials; and using clinical terminology and healthcare systems knowledge. Requires proficiency in healthcare terminology, ability to work in fast-paced environments, collaboration with healthcare teams, and completion of the 40-hour Professional Medical Interpreter course (or equivalent qualifications). Shift is graveyard 6:00 PM–6:30 AM, part-time (24 hours/week) at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of a pre-hire skills assessment
- Excellent oral and written command of both source and target language(s) as to obtain a “Professional Proficiency” or Level 3 in the ILR scale
- Includes specialized healthcare terminology
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Demonstrated interpersonal verbal and written communication skills to function as part of a team and the flexibility and good judgement to work independently
- Certificate of completion from a 40-hr Professional Medical Interpreter course
- Two years of experience preferred in healthcare interpreting (preferred qualifications)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Interpretation or Translation, Languages or Communications (preferred)
- National Certification as a Healthcare or Medical Interpreter (CCHI or NBCMI) (preferred)
- Utah State Certified Medical Language Interpreter License by DOPL (preferred)
- Knowledge of EPIC (preferred)
- Ongoing need for employee to see/read information, labels, equipment
- Ability to drive if required (driving role noted)
