Job Summary
As a Spanish Interpreter, you will act as a language liaison between Spanish-speaking patients and Cook Children's health care providers, facilitating accurate interpretation of health care information. Responsibilities include providing interpretation services during designated hours, and coordinating additional interpreter services as needed. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, proficiency in both English and Spanish, and prior experience in a healthcare setting. A high school diploma, knowledge of medical terminology, and BLS certification within 30 days of hire are mandatory.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years of experience working in a healthcare setting
- Current knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
- Ability to precisely and accurately translate critical medical information from English to the patient's native language
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation
- Excellent communication and active listening skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information
- Ability to interact and communicate with people in-person and over the telephone, often in stressful situations
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers required within 30 days of employment
Desired Qualifications
- Previous interpretation/translation experience
Additional Requirements
- Selected applicants will be tested on their Spanish proficiency level to determine oral, reading, and writing skills prior to an offer being made
