Spanish Bilingual Specialist at Sweetwater Part-Time

Job Summary
Set up physical settings and facilitate communication between Spanish-speaking parents and school staff by translating spoken and written materials, including legal terminology and colloquial language. Interpret for parent conferences, IEPs, and literacy assessments while administering ACCESS Screener assessments. Relay concepts, schedule meetings, and conduct home visits to connect families with community resources. Provide individual contact with special needs students and informally assess content knowledge in native language. Register new students and assist parents with forms. Inform supervisor immediately of sensitive or reportable issues. Work with school officials, social workers, and psychologists as directed.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school
- Associate's degree
- Training in Professional Translating
- American Translators Association (ATA) certification
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions
- Ability to lift mail and boxes up to ten pounds
- Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods of time
- Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information
- Ability to read simple forms
- Ability to prepare time sheets and supply requisitions using prescribed format
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
- Ability to record and deliver information
- Ability to explain procedures
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English
- Ability to utilize mathematical formulas
- Ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply
- Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using a computer

Desired Qualifications
- Preference given to an individual with an Associate's degree and/or training in Professional Translating and/or holding an American Translators Association (ATA) certification
