Space Mechanisms Engineer- Deployable Structures

On-siteAhmedabad, Gujarat, India

Full TimeStartup

Job Summary

Design and develop deployable structures and associated mechanisms, including Hold-Down and Release Mechanisms, for spacecraft and entry system applications. Develop and qualify HDRMs for subsystems while supporting testing campaigns covering vibration, TVAC, and deployment. Collaborate with avionics and systems teams for actuator and sensor integration to deliver flight-ready hardware. Apply expertise in GD&T, DFM, and additive manufacturing to model complex joints and perform tolerance stack-up analysis using ANSYS for structural and thermal validation. Create CMM probing area descriptions for inspection and ensure surface treatment processes meet requirements. Deliver tested, flight-ready deployable hardware in a fast-paced, test-driven environment with willingness to work extended hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 2–5 years of experience in spacecraft deployable structures and mechanisms
  • Hands-on experience with mechanism design, hinges, latches, and HDRMs
  • Strong expertise in GD&T (ASME Y14.5 standards), DFM, and design for additive manufacturing (DfAM)
  • Experience with SolidWorks layout design, linkage, or equivalent mechanism design software
  • Strong understanding of tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Experience in modeling complex joints in deployable or flexible structures
  • Proven experience with vibration testing and analysis of mechanisms
  • Expertise in creating CMM probing area descriptions of parts for inspection and validation
  • Deep experience with coatings, plating, and other surface treatment processes
  • Strong experience with ANSYS or similar CAE packages for structural, modal, and thermal analysis
  • Exposure to testing and validation of deployable structures
  • Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with complex spacecraft deployable structures
  • Proven ability to deliver flight heritage hardware
  • Background in algorithmic or generative design for mechanisms
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, test-driven environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
