Job Summary
Lead and Assistant Instructors and Exam Assessors deliver instruction at the South Island Police Academy for a pilot regional basic municipal recruit training program. Roles include leading specific instruction areas, supporting scenarios, and evaluating recruit performance. Workload ranges from 2–6 hours per week over a 16-week Block 1, with comprehensive instructional materials provided. Hours are Monday–Friday 0730–1530, with pre-course information sessions and a multi-stage selection process. Instruction covers areas such as Communication and De-escalation, Community Policing, Drill/Marching, Driver Training, Firearms, Investigation and Patrol Skills, Legal Studies and Police Procedures, Mental Health and Crisis Intervention, Personal Development and Resilience, Physical Fitness Training, PRIME and Report Writing, Tactics, Traffic Studies, and Use of Force. Preferred qualifications include previous instructional experience, strong organizational and leadership skills, and relevant instructional certifications.
