Report and write 2-3 stories per week about the South Bay food scene, including openings, closings and regional trends; develop sources, monitor social media and public records for original story ideas; create occasional videos for Instagram and TikTok in collaboration with video and audience teams; contribute to broader Bay Area restaurant coverage; collaborate with audience, photo, data and design teams; thrive in fast-paced newsroom with strong reporting, writing, and storytelling skills; proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a daily publication setting; based in the South Bay with a remote-work arrangement.

Required Qualifications

  • Two years' experience as reporter/editor at a daily newspaper, magazine, or web publication or equivalent
  • Demonstrated expertise in reporting and writing with strong news judgment
  • Ability to respond quickly to breaking news and juggle multiple deadlines
  • Ability to write sophisticated, high-impact features based on original reporting and analysis
  • Ability to collaborate with newsroom teams and work in a fast-changing environment
  • Interest in business reporting and passion for the food/restaurant beat
