Job Summary
The Sous Chef oversees food preparation and supervises in the Chef's absence, ensuring a safe, clean kitchen and proper opening/closing procedures. They assist the Chef with duties to ensure smooth restaurant operation, draft prep lists, manage line checks, ensure recipe adherence, handle inventory/purchasing support, receive deliveries, minimize waste, and assist with special events. Responsibilities include operating all kitchen equipment, upholding food handling regulations, maintaining proper storage, and ensuring overall kitchen efficiency. Strong supervisory and communication skills, plus thorough knowledge of food safety regulations and familiarity with commercial kitchen tools, are required. Ability to lift up to 50lbs, stand for long periods, and work weekends/holidays is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, or equivalent work experience
- Supervisory experience, preferably in Food & Beverage
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Thorough understanding of food safety and health regulations
- Strong familiarity with commercial kitchen tools, utensils, and equipment
- Must be able to give and follow directions thoroughly and accurately
- Must be able to handle a stressful, noisy and crowded work environment
- Must be comfortable interacting with both staff and guests in a friendly and helpful manner
