Job Summary
Sous Chef oversees the back-of-house shift, serving as the shift supervisor to ensure a positive tone and efficient kitchen flow. Responsibilities include opening/closing procedures, daily food safety and quality checks, leading pre-shift meetings, submitting nightly reports, maintaining vendor relationships, and coordinating with Chef/FOH management on issues. Must be capable of performing all BOH positions as needed, assist with interviewing, selecting, and training staff, manage labor scheduling, budgeting and inventory, enforce hygiene and safety protocols (FIFO, labeling/open date, temperature logs), assist with order scheduling and menu rollouts, train new hires, expedite orders during service, and handle closing procedures. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills essential; must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and accommodate overtime, weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred
- Must be fully trained and capable of performing any back of house position
- Willing to train or cover any station as needed
- Able to work overtime, weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations; Current Manager Food Handlers card
- Stand, walk, stand for extended periods; ability to lift up to 50 pounds
