Job Summary
Jr. Sous Chef at Taboo Muskoka (The Boathouse Restaurant, Gravenhurst) reports to the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef. Handles daily kitchen operations: assisting with food preparation, maintaining quality and presentation standards, supervising kitchen staff, coordinating station operations during service, and contributing to a positive, team-oriented kitchen environment. Leads training, helps develop recipes, ensures correct preparation and presentation, monitors incoming food shipments, enforces FIFO and food-safety protocols, and supports profitability through stock checks and cost management. Works in a fast-paced, high-heat kitchen environment with indoor/outdoor settings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Pay is $25.00 per hour. Full-time through October with staff housing available.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in a casual fine dining kitchen, including 2 years of leadership role in the kitchen
- Completion of a chef training diploma (preferred)
- Red Seal Certification (preferred)
- Ontario Food Handlers Certification
- Ability to use a computer, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Work Arrangement: Strong ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Ability to report on food costing, labour reports, and scheduling
