Job Summary

Sourcing Engineer – Metals (Senior-level Individual Contributor) responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for aluminum, steel, and fabricated ship structure components supporting new construction, repair, and refit programs. You will identify, assess, and qualify suppliers based on technical capability, manufacturing capacity, quality systems, financial stability, and lead time; lead supplier selection activities including RFQs, evaluations, benchmarking, and recommending sourcing decisions to achieve best total cost of ownership. Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production to understand specifications, know-how, and compliance requirements (ABS/Lloyd’s, weldments, assemblies, marine applications); support early supplier involvement aligning capabilities with design intent and project schedules; establish supplier performance metrics (quality, delivery, cost competitiveness, corrective actions); conduct regular supplier reviews and drive continuous improvement, risk reduction, and recovery actions; monitor market conditions and capacity constraints to inform strategy; maintain sourcing documentation per procurement standards to ensure regulatory compliance; serve as primary technical sourcing contact coordinating with internal teams for successful project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Metallurgy, or related technical discipline
  • Five or more years of experience in sourcing, supplier development, procurement engineering, or supplier quality within manufacturing, fabrication, marine, or heavy industrial environments preferred
  • Knowledge of aluminum and steel materials, including plate, shapes, weldments, fabricated assemblies, and structural applications
  • Experience evaluating supplier capabilities for fabricated metal components, assemblies, and ship structure-related work preferred
  • Working knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, machining, welding, and finishing
  • Experience with ERP systems (Syteline preferred) and Microsoft Excel for analysis, supplier evaluation, and reporting
  • Demonstrated capability in cost analysis, RFQ development, commercial evaluation, and supplier risk assessment
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration, analytical problem-solving, and clear communication skills
  • KPIs and supplier performance management
  • Ability to operate in an office setting with occasional site visits to shipyard environments
