Job Summary

Conduct high-quality ultrasound imaging in concert with radiologists while providing exceptional patient care across neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Explain procedures and post-procedure orders to patients to minimize anxiety and ensure cooperation. Maintain sterile equipment, perform quality control checks, and critique images for necessary repeats. Clean examination surfaces, manage linen, and follow OSHA regulations and universal precautions. Prioritize workflow to ensure timely patient arrival and departure. Work within a team, participate in staff meetings, and utilize performance data to identify improvement opportunities. This role involves on-call responsibilities as directed and may require travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must meet the education requirement for diagnostic medical ultrasound certification with ARDMS or ARRT
  • ARDMS certified within first year of employment
  • Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written communications
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly
  • Ability to perform diagnostic procedures
  • Ability to meet the specific needs of various patient age groups: neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric
  • Ensures patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department
  • Explains the procedure and post-procedure orders to the patient to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety
  • Prioritizes workflow in regard to patient condition and ensures patients' arrival and departure occur in a timely manner
  • Provides an atmosphere conducive to gain the patient's cooperation and confidence
  • Utilizes data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process
  • Follows and supports OSHA regulations and uses universal precautions when required
  • Cleans examination surfaces between patients
  • Provides clean linen including sheets, gowns, pillowcases, and towels
  • Immediately cleans spills following universal precautions
  • Properly stores accessory equipment when not in use
  • Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals
  • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers
  • Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings
  • Follows routine standards and properly and safely manipulates equipment, within its limitations, to obtain images
  • Maintains sterile equipment and fields
  • Adjusts cameras to obtain the proper density and contrast
  • Performs any necessary warm-up and quality control procedures on the equipment
  • Uses protocols to obtain images of internal structures
  • Critiques images for quality and makes necessary judgments to determine if repeat is necessary

  • Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs
  • Use Safe Handling Equipment for any weight over 35 lbs

  • On call responsibilities as directed
  • Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
  • 1 year experience in sonography
