Job Summary

Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations across the department's scope, selecting transducers, optimizing image parameters, and capturing complete studies. Review requisitions, obtain patient history, explain procedures, and position patients safely. Recognize emergent findings during scanning and communicate them promptly to the radiologist. Document technical findings, transmit images to PACS, perform equipment quality assurance, and follow infection prevention protocols. Manage the daily examination schedule in coordination with front desk and nursing units, sequencing inpatient, outpatient, and emergency studies while verifying examination ordering against clinical indication. This 90-day contract engagement in Albany, New York, supports an established healthcare organization's ultrasound service with a pay rate of $55.00 to $57.00 per hour.

Required Qualifications

  • ARDMS registration
  • credentialing appropriate to the examinations performed, such as RDMS in Abdomen or Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Graduation from an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program
  • any New York credential needed to practice
  • Prior clinical sonography experience in a hospital or outpatient imaging setting
  • current BLS certification
  • proficiency with PACS
  • strong scanning technique
  • image optimization skills
  • the ability to recognize abnormal findings
  • the physical capability to perform sustained scanning and assist with patient positioning and transfers
  • Reliable onsite availability

Desired Qualifications

  • Multiple ARDMS credentials, particularly RVT for vascular imaging
  • Experience with portable and bedside scanning
  • Experience with emergency or trauma ultrasound
  • Familiarity with a range of ultrasound platforms
  • experience precepting students or newer sonographers
  • prior contract or travel experience
  • Willingness to participate in call coverage or extended-hours scheduling
  • Experience with obstetric imaging including detailed anatomy scanning
  • comfort with challenging body habitus and technically difficult studies
  • a demonstrated commitment to ergonomic scanning practice
