Job Summary
Operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment to perform procedures on internal organs, vessels, fluid accumulations, masses, and developing fetuses. Report preliminary findings, measurements, and diagnoses to radiologists or cardiologists. Record scanned images, verify quality, and transfer them to the imaging system for interpretation. Requires current registration as an RDCS, RDMS, or RCS, with specific ARDMS or ARRT certification timelines. Part-time AM shifts available at UAB Medicine Gardendale, serving a comprehensive network of over 1.2 million patients annually.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Currently credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
- Currently registered as a Registered Technologist with Sonography Designation (R.T.(S)(ARRT)) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Currently credentialed as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
- Applicable registration within one (1) year for new graduates
- For Radiology department: ARDMS: currently registered as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or a student/new graduate eligible to sit for exam with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
- For Radiology department: ARDMS abdomen or OB/GYN registry required within 12 months of hire into classification
- For Radiology department: ARRT: currently registered as a Registered Technologist (R.T.) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- For Radiology department: Advanced certification in Sonography (R.T.(S)) required within 12 months of hire into classification
- For either route (ARDMS or ARRT) in Radiology department: ARDMS Registered Vascular Technology (RVT), ARRT Vascular Sonography (VS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) required within 24 months of hire into classification
