Job Summary
Solution Engineer I role focusing on pre-sales technical support and solution design for complex automation projects. Responsibilities include developing specialist areas of industry/technology, mentoring junior engineers, designing training materials, building and validating test plans, leading proofs of concept or pilot applications, providing on-site installation support, and delivering technical demonstrations to customers. The position requires independent input gathering from customers, maintaining expertise in industrial networking and IEC 61131 programming, and maintaining knowledge of Phoenix Contact products with emphasis on Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus TCP. Travel (~35%) and a hybrid work arrangement (minimum three days in the office) are included, with locations in Ann Arbor, MI; Middletown, PA; and Houston, TX. The role also entails supporting sales efforts, staying current with industry developments, and representing Phoenix Contact in technical associations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Associate’s Technical Degree + equivalent experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical focus preferred
- Minimum of 4 years industrial automation experience
- Industry specific controls system design and programming experience
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Ability to set priorities and perform simultaneous tasks
- Ability to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities to meet business goals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Effective interpersonal skills with comfort in delivering group presentations
