Job Summary

Lead client workshops, design intent sessions, and engineering reviews to translate complex technical requirements into actionable briefs for internal development and delivery teams. Provide mechanical engineering expertise across HVAC, chilled water, CRAH/CRAC systems, and airflow management, reviewing cooling strategies, thermal performance, and CFD analysis to ensure resilient, scalable solutions. Support the full project lifecycle from early-stage design and Basis of Development through construction, commissioning, and operational readiness, identifying technical risks and interface issues early. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, and vendors to deliver mission-critical infrastructure for hyperscale clients across EMEA, with travel up to 25%. Contribute feedback to continuous improvement of engineering standards and reference designs.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical engineering experience within hyperscale data centres, mission-critical facilities or another technically complex infrastructure environment
  • In-depth knowledge of data centre cooling and mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water, CRAH/CRAC, heat rejection, pumps, valves, pipework, containment and BMS interfaces
  • Ability to evaluate engineering decisions considering their impact on adjacent disciplines, operational resilience, maintainability and long-term asset performance
  • Understanding of integrated data centre systems and the interaction between mechanical, electrical and control systems throughout design, commissioning and operations
  • Experience supporting data centre design and delivery through design development, construction, commissioning and operational handover, ideally across RIBA Stages 2-5 or an equivalent project lifecycle
  • Experience reviewing Basis of Design documentation, technical specifications, design submissions, thermal modelling, CFD analysis and engineering changes
  • Good understanding of cooling resilience, redundancy, mechanical capacity, scalability, energy efficiency, PUE and operational performance
  • Strong customer-facing and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to lead workshops, challenge constructively and explain complex engineering decisions clearly
  • Sound technical judgement, analytical capability and a structured approach to risk identification and problem-solving
  • Ability to collaborate across Development, Design Engineering, Delivery and Operations while maintaining clear ownership of customer technical requirements
  • Degree, HND/HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional accreditation or chartership is desirable
  • Strong written and verbal English language skills; experience working across European markets is advantageous
  • Experience supporting commissioning, performance validation and technical acceptance of mechanical infrastructure is highly desirable
