Job Summary
Oversee the collection, transfer, and disposal of solid waste and recyclables for residential and commercial customers while managing the regional transfer station. Lead the Solid Waste Division by supervising staff, enforcing regulations, and optimizing routes using modern management practices and technology. Plan labor, equipment, and resources to ensure operational readiness, manage budgets and expenditures, and implement enhanced programs to improve services. Collaborate with city departments, agencies, and stakeholders to resolve regulatory concerns and prepare reports for leadership. Review site plans for vehicle accessibility and maintain databases to track data and trends.
Required Qualifications
- Five (5) years of experience in planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the collection and/or transfer of solid waste
- At least three (3) years at the supervisory/managerial level
- Experience in preparing/monitoring budgets
- Experience in creating/maintaining statistical reports and trend analysis
- Experience in overseeing contract development/management
- Knowledge of federal, state, and City of Prescott rules, regulations, policies, procedures and ordinances related to solid waste management and programs
- Knowledge of administrative procedures, practices, and principles
- Knowledge of budget preparation, monitoring, and administration
- Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques
- Knowledge of occupational safety and health policies and procedures related to solid waste management
- Skill in supervising, evaluating, training, and motivating employees
- Skill in preparing and administering budgets
- Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing
- Skill in utilizing public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state/federal/local officials, elected officials, staff, and City residents
- Ability to provide customer service and interact with employees and the general public
- Safely operates required equipment and City vehicle as needed
- Safely lifts 25 pounds
- Clearly, concisely, and effectively communicate both in person and over the telephone
