Job Summary
Operate specialized trucks and heavy motorized equipment to move, transfer, and collect solid waste and refuse containers in compliance with safety regulations. Maintain and clean machinery, report mechanical defects, and utilize proper safety precautions while recognizing and reporting unsafe acts or accidents. Support divisional operations with regular attendance and demonstrate courteous behavior when interacting with the public and City staff. Requires a Texas State Commercial Driver's License Class B and two years of heavy equipment experience.
Required Qualifications
- Texas State Commercial Driver's License Class B
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 year's work experience operating heavy equipment
- Knowledge of Operation, maintenance, and capabilities of heavy power-driven equipment
- Knowledge of Safety policies and standards, and safe driving practices in public streets
- Skill in Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment
- Skill in vehicle inspection procedures
- Skill in making minor adjustments to operating controls
- Skill in Following standard operating and safety procedures
- Skill in verbal and written instructions
- Skill in Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects
- Ability to follow safety precautions
- Ability to use safety equipment
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- 2 year's work experience operating heavy equipment, preferably with the City of Odessa
