Job Summary
Solicitor sought to join North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service (NAAFLS) in Nhulunbuy, NT. Provide culturally appropriate legal assistance primarily in Family Law, Family Violence, and Child Protection matters for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. Responsibilities include delivering trauma-informed legal advice and representation, maintaining client files, contributing to community legal education, reporting, and travel to remote communities for outreach and client support. Requires ability to obtain/maintain an unrestricted practising certificate in the NT, minimum 2 years post-admission experience, proficiency in cross-cultural communication, and willingness to travel overnight as needed. Required Qualifications
- Unrestricted practising certificate in the NT
- Minimum of 2 years post-admission experience in a relevant legal role
- Experience providing culturally sensitive legal services to Indigenous clients, especially victims of family violence in remote communities
- Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation and confidentiality skills
- Sound knowledge of Family Law, domestic violence, child protection and related areas
- Strong attention to detail; confident using electronic records and data systems
- Collaborative team player in a cross-cultural workplace
- Willing to travel overnight to remote communities (up to two trips of 2–4 days per month)
- Ability to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (WWCC) and clear Criminal History Check
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence
