Job Summary
Perform preventive, corrective, predictive, and emergency maintenance on utility-scale solar photovoltaic facilities and substations, including troubleshooting, repairing electrical and electromechanical equipment, and executing switching and lockout/tagout procedures. Monitor plant performance to identify equipment issues and complete work orders, inspections, and reports using the computerized maintenance management system. Assist in developing plant procedures and technical documentation while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Work independently or as part of a team to support daily operations, including on-call rotations and overtime as required. Located in Guayama, Puerto Rico, this role supports AES's mission to accelerate the future of energy through sustainable innovation.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Degree, Associate Degree, or equivalent vocational training in Electrical, Electromechanical, Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, Renewable Energy, or a related technical discipline
- English and Spanish communication skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical maintenance, power generation, industrial facilities, utilities, renewable energy plants, or similar operational environments
- Working knowledge of electrical systems, including AC/DC circuits, transformers, breakers, switchgear, protection systems, and power distribution equipment
- Experience performing preventive, corrective, and troubleshooting maintenance on electrical and electromechanical equipment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, one-line drawings, technical manuals, procedures, and equipment documentation
- Knowledge of electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout (LOTO), switching procedures, and safe work standards
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment
- Valid Puerto Rico driver's license and ability to travel locally between plant facilities, if required
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical activities including walking long distances, climbing ladders, lifting equipment, and working at heights when necessary
- Availability to work overtime, respond to emergency call-outs, and participate in on-call rotations as required
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities
- Previous experience operating or maintaining utility-scale solar power plants
- Experience with substations and medium-voltage electrical systems
- OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, First Aid/CPR, or other relevant safety certifications
- Experience with SCADA systems, plant monitoring platforms, and electrical testing equipment
- Familiarity with SMA, Hitachi, Power Electronics, Nextracker, Array Technologies, or similar solar technologies
