Job Summary
Provide high-level customer service to Pioneer Library System customers, managing children's services, reference, reader's advisory, and programming. Operate computers and standard office software while assisting patrons with basic hardware and electronic resources. Conduct story times, public speaking, and other library programs under the direction of the Children's Services Manager. Perform circulation duties, retrieve items from floor level to five and a half feet, and lift up to 25 lbs. Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, followed by mandatory new hire orientation.
Required Qualifications
- Full time position, 40 hrs/wk
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule which will include evenings and weekends
- Must be available to work up to two weeks of Mandatory New Hire Orientation & Training
- Must be available to work Mandatory New Hire Orientation & Training located at the Administrative Offices in Norman
- Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university
- Three years relevant experience
- Valid driver's license
- Knowledge of library policies and procedures
- Knowledge of library circulation practices and procedures
- Knowledge of children's books
- Knowledge of child development and education techniques
- Knowledge of reader's advisory and reference services and functions
- Demonstrated ability in working with children and children's programming
- Skills in working with public
- Skills in public speaking
- Skills in conducting/assisting with story times and other library programs
- Strong skills in written and spoken business communications
- Working knowledge in the operation of computers, office machines, and standard office software products
- Working knowledge in electronic resources, internet and database information retrieval
- Lift up to 25 lbs
- Retrieve and replace items from floor level to at least 5 1/2 feet in height
- Work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with children or early childhood education preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred
