Job Summary
Conduct formal and informal white-box and black-box software testing to verify functionality against requirements for the MSFC Space Systems Division. Prepare test documentation, support test readiness and anomaly reviews, and engage with Software Readiness Boards to facilitate formal product releases. Develop scripting tools for test automation and execute test procedures within simulated environments, including pre-test configuration and post-test data analysis. Write and maintain technical documentation such as test plans, procedures, and formal verification reports while reviewing program documentation from a testing perspective. Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies and tools like JIRA, Confluence, and GitHub to support ongoing project architecture evolution.
Required Qualifications

- Ph.D., with minimum of 19 years of experience
- MS with at least 23 years of experience
- BS with at least 25 years of experience
- Ability to read and comprehend software written in C or C++, Python, including interfaces such as MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and RS-422
- Experience evaluating test data, correlating results with expected outcomes, and investigating anomalies
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or similar in developing scripting tools for test automation, product release, and regression testing
- Experience developing and executing test procedures, including pre-test configuration (e.g., instrumentation, data acquisition, software loading/configuration) and post-test tasks (e.g., data archiving and analysis) within a simulated environment
- Familiarity with Agile or other software development methodologies
- Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and practices
- Understanding of UML (Unified Modeling Language) for software design representation
- Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or DOORS Next Generation (DNG)
- Experience with GitHub development or similar repository tools
- Proficiency with data reduction and manipulation tools
- Strong ability to write and maintain technical documentation including test plans, test procedures, and formal verification reports
- Ability to review program/project documentation and provide feedback from a software testing perspective as well as walking test documentation through external review processes
- Solid understanding of systems and software engineering processes, including Agile practices and object-oriented development methodologies
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
- Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%)
- Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%)
- Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%)
- Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%)
- Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%)
- Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%)
- Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday
- Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job
- Regular attendance is a necessity
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%)
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
Desired Qualifications
- A degree in Software from an ABET accredited school preferred
- Will consider other engineering degrees with hands on experience related to software test
- Familiarity with software development toolsets; experience with the Atlassian suite (e.g., JIRA, Confluence) is a plus
