Job Summary
Lead and grow a software engineering team responsible for the messaging and events platform that underpins KnowBe4’s product suite. Own people leadership, hiring, performance conversations, and development of engineers at scale. Bring enough backend depth in typed languages (Go, Rust, C#, or equivalent) to credibly evaluate designs and guide technical discussions. Oversee AWS-based infrastructure (ECS, Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, IAM) and the delivery of high-throughput email delivery and outbound channel integrations (Teams, Slack, Google Chat, webhooks). Drive architecture for event-driven patterns (pub/sub, eventual consistency, idempotency, dead-letter handling) and ensure reliable delivery with observability, testing, and governance (Terraform IaC, multi-region setups). Communicate designs via docs, RFCs, and architecture reviews, align with Agile/SDLC processes, and influence hiring, promotion, and discipline decisions for the team.
Required Qualifications
- BS or equivalent plus 3 years technical experience
- MS or equivalent plus 5 years of experience, including team leadership
- Ph.D. or equivalent plus 4 years of experience, including team leadership
- Prior individual contributor experience in messaging, eventing, or platform engineering before moving into management
- Go production experience
- Rust exposure
- Email infrastructure (AWS SES or similar)
- Terraform at scale
- Observability tooling experience
- Experience managing a platform or infrastructure team
