Job Summary
SpaceX is seeking a Software Engineer for the Platform Team to design, build, and operate secure, scalable AI platforms and proxy systems used across the company. Responsibilities include owning the full lifecycle of platform development, accelerating adoption through tooling and shared assets, onboarding new models and expanding compute resources, and delivering risk-mitigating tools such as AI-powered code review and PR automation. The role emphasizes lean, secure applied AI that converts engineering expertise into automation and reliable data systems, with collaboration across stakeholders, and deep familiarity with Docker-based architectures, multi-provider cloud integrations, MLOps, and developer tooling. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or 2+ years of production software experience; experience building production software in platform, backend, or full-stack contexts; and proficiency with Python (and Go/Java/TypeScript), Kubernetes, and IaC concepts. Compensation ranges from $125,000 to $175,000 per year, with additional incentives and comprehensive benefits, and ITAR-compliant employment requirements for SpaceX.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other engineering discipline; OR 2+ years of professional experience building production software
- Experience developing production software systems (platform, backend, or full stack)
- Hands-on work with Docker containers, security-focused architecture, and multi-provider integrations (cloud compute + frontier model providers)
- Familiarity with MLOps, model onboarding, compute orchestration, and infrastructure for large-scale AI usage
- Strong desire to enable others — experience creating tools, documentation, shared assets, or training that drives company-wide adoption
