Software Engineer, Networking & Linux Systems

Job Summary

Architect, configure, and optimize the internal fault-tolerant network linking on-board compute nodes, controllers, and high-bandwidth sensors while driving the design and reliability of vehicle-wide time synchronization using PTP and IEEE 802.1AS. Design robust failover mechanisms and network bonding frameworks for zero-drop external links, then debug and tune low-level networking parameters for high-throughput, low-latency performance. Write and maintain reliable system-level software and daemons in Go and Python, assist with hardware bring-up, and build end-to-end monitoring for the networking stack to ensure fleet connectivity health is debuggable at scale. This role requires close collaboration with real hardware and lab tools in our Austin facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong track record in system-level software development
  • Deep expertise in Linux systems and networking fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience with IP routing
  • Hands-on experience with VLANs
  • Hands-on experience with firewalling (nftables/iptables)
  • Expert-level packet troubleshooting (tcpdump, Wireshark etc)
  • Solid experience programming in Go
  • Solid experience programming in Python
  • Willingness to work interchangeably between Go and Python
  • Comfort reading/understanding C/C++ for lower-level debugging
  • A methodical approach to debugging complex problems that span across user-space code, Linux kernels, drivers, and physical hardware interfaces
  • Location: Austin, TX (On-site / Hybrid)
  • This role requires close collaboration with real hardware and lab tools in our Austin facility

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience with Automotive Ethernet
  • Prior experience with TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking)
  • Hands-on exposure to implementing or debugging PTP and hardware timestamping in distributed systems
  • Comfort using lab tools (serial consoles, JTAG, I2C/SPI) to isolate hardware faults vs. software bugs on ARM64 platforms
  • Experience with real-time OS tuning
  • Experience with cgroups
  • Experience with CPU pinning
  • Experience with scheduling priorities
  • Familiarity with the Nix ecosystem
  • NixOS experience
