Software Engineer (Java Developer)

Job Summary
Design and develop sustainable, readable Java backend applications and services, including REST and GraphQL APIs. Re-architect and refactor existing software while contributing to technical specifications and architecture decisions. Build resilient distributed systems using message-based architectures like Kafka or Pulsar and maintain SQL schemas. Write automated tests, participate in code reviews, and improve engineering processes and tooling. Work with cloud-native infrastructure and Kubernetes to deploy production services via CI/CD pipelines. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to take ownership of technical initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional experience in Java development
- Strong hands-on experience building production backend applications
- Strong knowledge of Java and object-oriented programming principles
- Experience developing backend services, APIs, and distributed applications
- 2+ years of experience working with SQL databases, including schema design and data modelling
- Experience with message-based/event-driven architectures such as Kafka, Pulsar, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies
- Strong understanding of REST APIs and/or GraphQL
- Experience working with microservices and distributed systems
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or modern cloud-native infrastructure
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated software delivery
- Good understanding of automated testing, code quality, refactoring, and code review practices
- Experience with Git and modern software development workflows
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to take ownership of tasks/projects and proactively contribute ideas
- Experience with Apache Pulsar or Kafka
- Experience with Spring Boot / Spring Cloud
- Experience with GitOps and tools such as ArgoCD
- Experience with CI/CD platforms such as CircleCI, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins
- Experience working in SaaS, e-commerce, fintech, or other high-scale product environments
- Change management savviness
- Elevated level of comfort dealing with ambiguity
