Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer IV leading a team inside the Customer Order Domain to deliver high-quality, maintainable software for highly complex applications. Partner with Product Managers and Architecture, coach engineers, drive delivery, and champion best practices. Responsibilities include owning the engineering culture within the team, conducting knowledge-sharing sessions on latest technologies, triaging and resolving production issues, mentoring developers, performing code reviews, and participating in pair programming. You will drive complex technical initiatives in collaboration with Architects and IT Management, focusing on a scalable backend-centric stack with frontend awareness in a distributed system environment. The role emphasizes delivering secure, reliable software across Grainger’s order lifecycle, including cost calculations, freight, pricing, tax considerations, order notifications, and secure payment access.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in computer science or similar
- 5+ years experience as a Software Engineer; with experience in modern software engineering; designing; developing, testing and deploying scalable software applications within a variety of technologies and environments
- Expert knowledge of programming skills; JVM, Kotlin, Typescript, React, or similar languages
- Strong focus on backend with working knowledge of front end
- Demonstrated knowledge of distributed system design and integration patterns
- Understanding of event driven data streaming architectures
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and Dev Ops Practices
- Experience with analyzing, interpreting and communicating complex problems and practices
