Job Summary
Develop and maintain the Data Management Platform for Rakuten's Global Ad Technology department, overseeing the full web application and data pipeline lifecycle from architecture design and middleware selection to release and operational support. Proactively identify root causes and recover with the team, and propose new technologies, middle-wares, and tools to improve system architecture. Role emphasizes direct marketing insight across multiple channels and strong technical execution to translate user stories into platform capabilities, enabling rapid support for marketing activities. Requirements include 3+ years of professional software engineering with deep expertise in two areas among backend (Java Spring Boot, microservices, GCP serverless), frontend (React, TypeScript), and data processing (BigQuery, Spark, ETL), plus experience with Terraform, CI/CD, and observability/cost monitoring. Desirable skills include system performance tuning, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), frontend with TypeScript/React, Spark/Kafka, and OSS contributions. Required Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years of professional software engineering with a production-first mindset
- Deep Domain Expertise: Mastery in exactly two of the following areas (Must have around 3 years of experience) : Backend: Java Spring Boot/Batch, Microservices, and GCP Serverless (Cloud Run/Jobs).
- Frontend: React, TypeScript, and modern web architecture at scale.
- Data Processing: BigQuery, GCP Dataflow, Apache Spark, and large-scale ETL (100+ TB).
- Platform/DevOps: Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and observability/cost monitoring.
- Core Competencies: High-performance thinking (latency/throughput), architectural judgment, and proficiency with AI productivity tools.
