Job Summary
Develop backend services, data pipelines, and APIs while writing clean, maintainable, secure code that adheres to engineering best practices. Contribute to technical design discussions, investigate production issues using logs and metrics, and support system reliability through monitoring and deployment improvements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and deliver reliable product capabilities, while participating in code reviews and maintaining technical documentation. This role focuses on evolving the Cargo Movements team's core data platform, extracting disparate sources, and applying algorithms to large datasets for internal and external clients.
Required Qualifications
- Experience using Python to build data processing, transformation, or integration workflows.
- Understanding of data integration and ETL principles, including batch, asynchronous, or streaming data processing.
- Experience working with SQL and relational databases.
- Familiarity with developing, integrating, or maintaining APIs and backend services.
- Understanding of modern software development practices, including Git, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code in line with established engineering practices.
- Basic understanding of containerisation technologies, such as Docker.
- Ability to investigate technical problems, communicate blockers, and contribute to the reliable operation of production systems.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and business domains.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, analytics, and data science.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with at least one additional backend language or technology, such as Node.js, Scala, Java, or another JVM-based language.
- Exposure to developing front-end applications using a modern framework, preferably Vue.js, with TypeScript or JavaScript.
- Experience with AWS or another major cloud provider.
- Familiarity with Kafka or another message-broker or event-streaming technology.
- Exposure to Elasticsearch or another search and indexing technology.
