Job Summary
Design and develop scalable routing protocol software, focusing on BGP, while writing maintainable C/C++ code including design, implementation, unit testing, and code reviews. Troubleshoot complex networking issues by reproducing customer environments and partner with Quality Engineering to improve automation and test coverage. Build proof-of-concept solutions for real-world customer requirements and collaborate with global teams to influence architecture and technical direction. Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance networking performance, scalability, and reliability. This role supports HPE's RSPI team in advancing enterprise networking solutions from edge to cloud, with a hybrid schedule of two days per week in an office.
Required Qualifications
- Hybrid work arrangement (average 2 days per week from an HPE office)
- 10+ years of experience developing networking or systems software
- Expert-level programming skills in C/C++
- Strong knowledge of data structures and multithreaded programming
- Deep understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking and routing protocols
- Experience with BGP
- Experience with OSPF
- Experience with IS-IS
- Experience with EVPN-VXLAN
- Experience with MPLS
- Experience with TCP/IP
- Experience with data center networking, including IP Fabric, VXLAN, or CLOS architectures
- Experience with scripting or automation using Python, Go, Rust, or similar languages
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across global engineering teams
- Valid driver's license (implied by travel requirement to replicate customer environments)
- Ability to travel to replicate customer environments
