Software Development Manager

Job Summary
Lead one or more high-performing software development teams, coordinating day-to-day activities and managing dependencies within and between project teams. Participate in architectural design alongside software architects, perform code reviews to ensure adherence to standards, and balance technical debt reduction against business delivery needs. Own performance management, mentoring, and career planning for individual developers while leading recruitment, onboarding, and handling disciplinary actions as needed. Coordinate with Product Managers on technical backlog definition, estimation, and maintenance, and assist with deployment, validation, release, and rollback activities. Work closely with infrastructure and operations teams to support production issues and coordinate product rollouts. Some off-hours work is required for production releases; Curve practices continuous delivery.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience leading or managing software developers building large-scale web applications
- 8+ years of professional software development experience building enterprise or SaaS software
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality software in an agile SaaS environment
- Strong understanding of AWS architecture best practices
- Proficiency in relational databases and data storage technologies
- Strong experience with object-oriented development in one or more languages (C#, Java, PHP, or similar)
- Experience with REST APIs and JavaScript frameworks in rich web applications
- Proven ability in system design and architecture, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance
- Experience writing user stories and breaking down high-level requirements into smaller, well-defined development tasks
- Demonstrated ability to organize, manage, and lead multiple teams focused on different objectives
- Ability to manage dependencies, remove obstacles, and keep teams productive
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience collaborating across product management, architecture, UX, QA, and customer support teams
- Some off-hours work is required for production releases
Desired Qualifications
- Experience recruiting and onboarding software developers
- Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated SaaS environments
- Experience using and encouraging modern AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar)
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and experience working alongside AI-focused development teams
