Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Job Summary

Design and maintain automated test frameworks for scalable cloud-native distributed backend systems while building reliable load testing scenarios and pipelines. Partner with engineering teams to turn user needs into clear test strategies and ensure quality for third-party API integrations. Evaluate testing trade-offs, deliver accurate estimates, and investigate defects within large-scale distributed systems. Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated build quality gates, and test tooling while leveraging AI to enhance automation workflows. Mentor engineers on quality practices and foster a culture of craftsmanship. Support production systems through monitoring, regression testing, and operational quality improvements. Work hybrid, in-office Tuesdays and Thursdays, in a collaborative fintech environment focused on secure, reliable banking technology.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 4+ years of professional QA/SDET engineering experience
  • Automated testing on cloud platforms
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Prior experience testing systems within financial services, banking, or fintech environments
  • Proficient in at least one programming or scripting language commonly used for test automation (e.g. JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, C#)
  • Ability to build and maintain frameworks from scratch
  • Strong experience with API test automation tools (e.g., Playwright, Postman/Newman, RestAssured)
  • CI/CD-integrated test frameworks
  • Expert-level understanding of Integration and unit testing
  • Expert-level understanding of API design and contracts
  • Expert-level understanding of Testing API security - including authentication and authorization, input validation, and data exposure
  • Expert-level understanding of Relational and non-relational databases - including SQL for data validation
  • Test strategy for performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
  • Demonstrated ownership mindset
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments
  • Excellent time management and professional work ethic
  • Must be able to read, write and understand fluent English
  • Ability to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office
  • Hybrid work schedule available after initial training period in our Salt Lake City, Utah office

Desired Qualifications

  • Automated testing on cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred)
