Software Development Engineer in Test

Job Summary
Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks using Ruby and Gherkin (BDD) to validate product acceptance criteria. Create reusable test automation scripts and develop acceptance tests that verify business requirements while ensuring accessibility and security standards. Collaborate with developers and product owners to define test scenarios using Behavior-Driven Development and maintain the local Performance Test Pack. Continuously improve coding standards, participate in code reviews, and support functional test scenarios as required. This role operates within a collaborative, multidisciplinary agile environment alongside civil servants and industry experts, with a strong focus on work-life balance and a flexible hybrid model requiring three days onsite in Swansea.
Required Qualifications
- Strong programming skills in Ruby
- Hands-on experience with Gherkin and BDD frameworks (e.g., Cucumber)
- Good understanding of scripting languages and automation best practices
- Knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns, and clean code practices
- Experience in Accessibility and Security testing
- Familiarity with performance testing concepts and maintaining performance test suites
- Ability to write scalable, maintainable, and reusable automation code
- Location: Swansea (with a regular expectation of 60% on-site attendance)
- Strong focus on work-life balance with a flexible hybrid model (3 days onsite)
