Job Summary
Design and maintain scalable backend payment services supporting Expedia's global travel platform, applying software design principles to write clean, modular code with secure data handling practices. Implement architectural patterns and GenAI capabilities to enhance system design, while improving reliability through observability, automation, and continuous operational improvements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features aligned with strategic goals, ensuring systems perform well in production at global scale. This role requires strong ownership and follows through on commitments to build reliable systems that impact millions of travelers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Master's in a related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience
- 2+ years of experience in backend software development, working with cloud-based and distributed systems at scale
- Proficiency in Java or Kotlin, with hands-on experience integrating services with relational and NoSQL databases
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure/test automation, and delivering features in Agile development environments
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or Master's in a related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience
- 2+ years of experience in backend software development, working with cloud-based and distributed systems at scale
- Proficiency in Java or Kotlin, with hands-on experience integrating services with relational and NoSQL databases
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure/test automation, and delivering features in Agile development environments
- This role is only available in Seattle, WA, in alignment with our flexible work model, which requires employees to be in the office at least three days a week

- Experience working on payment platforms or implementing backend services leveraging GenAI technologies
- Experience contributing to multiple multi-quarter, cross-team projects
- Experience supporting complex distributed systems in production through monitoring, debugging, incident resolution, and root-cause analysis

- A Master's degree in a related technical field
