Software Development Engineer

Job Summary
Design, build, and maintain highly concurrent, distributed backend services in Go that power StrongDM's proxy data plane and control-plane platform. Apply sound judgment to evaluate tradeoffs and adapt existing approaches when working through ambiguous technical problems. Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and DevOps partners to translate requirements into working, well-tested code. Contribute to the secure handling of network protocols and cryptographic systems within your area of ownership. Participate in code and design reviews, holding a high bar for performance, security, and maintainability. Investigate and resolve technical issues in distributed, multi-cloud production environments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical discipline
- 3+ years of related experience
- Working knowledge of Go (Golang)
- Working knowledge of distributed systems
- Working knowledge of backend/network service development
- Experience evaluating tradeoffs and adapting existing approaches to resolve technical issues based on limited information or precedent
- Familiarity with API design (gRPC/Protobuf and/or RESTful APIs)
- Familiarity with core distributed systems concepts
- Experience with AWS (or another major cloud provider)
- Experience with cloud-native deployment models
- Must be able to work from our Mexico City office three days per week
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with more than one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
- Familiarity with secure protocols, mTLS/PKI, or secrets management tools (e.g., HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, Azure Key Vault)
- Exposure to proxying database, SSH/RDP, Kubernetes, or HTTP traffic
- Basic understanding of Zero Trust architecture, just-in-time access models, or policy-as-code (e.g., Cedar)
