Job Summary
Software Development Engineer at Hamburg-based Adobe Cloud Platform & Collaboration team responsible for backend systems supporting high-traffic, latency-sensitive workflows (Photoshop, Firefly, Express, Document Cloud). Own parts of the system end-to-end from design through production rollout, solve latency, throughput, consistency, data durability, and storage-cost challenges, and participate in incident response with follow-up fixes. Drive technical direction through design reviews and prototypes, collaborate with partner teams in Hamburg, the US, and India, and apply modern development practices and AI-assisted tooling to keep iteration tight and maintain high quality. Required skills include strong Java development, Spring, RESTful APIs, NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB), message queues, distributed systems, observability tooling (Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus), AWS or other cloud platforms, and fluent German and English communication. The role involves two on-site days per week in Hamburg with flexibility to work from home other days.
Required Qualifications
- Several years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of owning non-trivial systems in production
- Strong programming skills, ideally Java
- Hands-on experience with Spring
- NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB
- Message queues
- RESTful APIs
- Familiarity with observability tooling such as Splunk, Grafana, or Prometheus
- Experience with distributed systems
- Experience with AWS or major cloud platform
- Excellent German and English communication
- Teamplayer with ability to give and receive direct feedback
- Curiosity to dig into unfamiliar systems and find root causes
- Experience contributing to incident response and postmortems
- Experience shaping technical direction through design reviews and prototypes
- AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Claude Code)
