Software Developer (AI/ML), TS//SCI with Counterintelligence Polygraph Required

$170,000–$220,000 year

On-siteAlexandria, Virginia, United States

Full TimeSmall

Job Summary

Design and develop AI-driven automation solutions for complex government and national security workflows by identifying manual, repetitive processes to improve through intelligent systems. Build LLM-based applications including retrieval-augmented generation, agents, and tool use to extract information, reason over data, and trigger downstream actions while evaluating automation opportunities based on accuracy, reliability, and mission impact. Analyze large, heterogeneous datasets to develop statistical models, perform exploratory data analysis, and design experiments for AI system evaluation. Partner with mission specialists and engineers to translate ambiguous requirements into technical approaches, demonstrate capabilities to stakeholders, and iterate based on user feedback. Move prototypes into production environments, monitor performance, and establish best practices for responsible AI deployments.

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS//SCI clearance with Counterintelligence or Lifestyle Polygraph
  • 5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, AI, quantitative analysis, or a related technical field
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Strong experience with C++, Python, Java, SQL, and any equivalent programming skills
  • Deep understanding of machine learning, statistics, and data science fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying machine learning or AI systems
  • Experience applying LLMs or other modern AI techniques to real-world applications
  • Experience designing automated data or business workflows
  • Strong understanding of model evaluation, experimentation, and performance measurement
  • Ability to work across the full lifecycle from data exploration and prototyping through production deployment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to operate independently and take ownership of ambiguous technical problems
  • Ability to obtain and maintain additional security clearance accesses to Special Access Programs (SAP) or Access Compensatory Control Measures (ACCM)

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience building AI agents or agentic workflows
  • Experience with LLM APIs, open-source language models, embeddings, RAG, vector databases, or tool calling
  • Experience with NLP, information extraction, semantic search, or knowledge graphs
  • Experience building production data pipelines and ML systems
  • Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Spark, or similar technologies
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices
  • Experience with MLOps, model monitoring, and automated evaluation
  • Experience supporting the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, or other federal mission
  • Experience working in classified, secure, or air-gapped environments
  • Experience automating complex analyst or operational workflows
  • Experience with geospatial, graph, time-series, or other specialized data
