Job Summary
Develop, modify, debug, test, deploy, and maintain C#/.NET, JavaScript, Python, and web-based applications while training and optimizing AI/ML models for production environments. Integrate AI/ML components into backend systems, conduct code reviews, and provide technical oversight to junior developers and student workers. Collaborate with project leaders to develop work plans, monitor technical risks, and report progress to management. Maintain software documentation, ensure system security and compliance, and participate in data architecture design and performance tuning. Safely operate university vehicles and machinery. This role serves as the technical lead for software development projects at the Autonomy Research Institute, supporting Unmanned Aircraft Systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or applicable field
- Five (5) years of related experience
- Additional experience/education may be used as a substitute for the minimum education/experience requirement: High School Diploma/GED, and nine (9) years of related experience
- Associate's degree in Computer Science or applicable field, and seven (7) years of related experience
- Master's degree in Computer Science or applicable field, and three (3) years of related experience
- Valid Driver's License
- Proficiency in AI/ML model development using Python and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn, including experience training, evaluating, optimizing, and deploying models in production environments
- Experience with full-stack web development using C#, ASP.NET Core, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and REST APIs
- Experience with database development using Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL
- Proficiency with Git and version-control workflows
- Experience leading software or AI/ML development efforts and providing technical guidance or mentorship to junior developers
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system
- Ability to travel up to 20% for position-associated missions and training sessions
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field
- Relevant AI/ML, data science, or software-development certifications
- Experience with software development supporting Unmanned Aircraft Systems or autonomous systems
- Experience developing or integrating geographic information system applications
- Record of published AI/ML, autonomy, UAS, or software-development research
- Experience with DevOps tools and practices, including Docker, continuous integration and continuous deployment, or Kubernetes
- Proficiency with Linux operating systems, including Ubuntu or Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- Experience managing multidisciplinary software-development projects, including project schedules, technical requirements, resource planning, and deliverables
- Experience writing technical proposals, sponsor deliverables, technical reports, or system documentation
