Job Summary

Determine clients' eligibility for financial assistance and interview individuals or families to assess needs and required services. Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions addressing grief, stress, or chemical dependency, while leading community workshops and providing bereavement counseling. Complete psychosocial assessments, care plans, and discharge plans, then refer clients to community resources for counseling, job placement, debt counseling, legal aid, housing, or medical treatment. Supervise other social workers and serve on policymaking committees to lobby for solutions. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address social, emotional, and financial needs of patients and families in a hospice setting.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Master's degree in Social Work from a program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education
  • 1-3 years Social Work experience in a health care setting
  • Child Abuse Iowa Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services within 180 Days
  • Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services within 180 Days

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, cultures and their history and origins
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action
  • Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do
  • Actively looking for ways to help people
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • The ability to speak clearly so others can understand you
