Job Summary
Social Worker III at Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) provides highly complex social services in a psychiatric hospital setting. Responsibilities include interviewing and assessing patients and legally authorized representatives to determine psychosocial, economic, and physical needs; coordinating care across interdisciplinary teams; assisting with rights advocacy, discharge planning, transfers, furloughs, and community placements; designing and delivering trainings to promote patient self-advocacy and decision-making; supervising or guiding junior social workers and students; and supporting disaster response/COOP as needed. Requires licensure in social work (LBSW/LMSW/LCSW) with related experience, ability to navigate state hospital policies, and strong communication, assessment, planning, intervention, and advocacy skills.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Licensed Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (LBSW) and two years of social work experience working directly with persons with mental, social, or substance use disorders
- OR Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and one year of experience working directly with persons with mental, social, or substance use disorders
- OR Completion of State Hospital internship program required
