Job Summary
Social Worker II at Nueces County Public Defender’s Office assists attorneys representing indigent individuals with mental health and/or intellectual disability issues; conducts client interviews and assessments in jail and in the community; develops individualized alternative sentencing and mitigation recommendations; provides trial support and may testify; collaborates with public defender team and community resources; may train and supervise staff; requires knowledge of DSM IV/V and strong writing and communication skills; bilingual Spanish is preferred; licensure as LBSW and at least 3 years of licensed social work experience are required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Social Work or a social/behavioral science
- LBSW license issued by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners
- at least 3 years of experience as a licensed social worker
- ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- ability to speak Spanish is preferred but not required
- valid Texas Driver’s license
- willingness to work before, during, and after disasters and emergencies
